About the job
We're expanding our firmware team and looking for a motivated Firmware Engineer. You will be instrumental in developing the core logic for our next-generation container sensors, which are cutting-edge IoT devices designed to track containers worldwide using cellular and satellite communication. These incredibly low-power devices operate for over 12 years on primary cell batteries, requiring no charging or service – making them truly unattended in the field. You'll be working in a fast-paced environment where you'll have significant ownership over your projects. This is a chance to build tangible products that have a real-world impact on global logistics.
Design, develop, and maintain firmware for our low-power, long-life embedded IoT devices.
Optimize firmware for ultra-low power consumption to meet our industry-leading battery life targets.
Collaborate directly with hardware engineers on board bring-up, validation, and debugging.
Develop and maintain robust test suites and automated testing infrastructure for firmware validation.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues that span the hardware, firmware, and cloud interface.

From Code to Container

What You'll Be Building
As a Firmware Engineer at Balder, you're not just writing code; you're creating the intelligence that powers our global network of smart containers. You will be a key player in a small, agile team responsible for the entire firmware lifecycle, from initial concept and architecture to deployment and in-field updates. You will work on optimizing for our industry-leading battery life, developing robust communication protocols, and ensuring our sensors perform reliably in the harshest conditions. Your work will directly contribute to making global trade more efficient, transparent, and sustainable.
