Shape the future of commercial energy storage in the UK
The Context:
Threefold enables commercial and industrial organisations to store low-cost, low-carbon electricity and deploy it intelligently when prices, emissions and system stress peak; combining battery-enabled tariffs with proprietary optimisation and control IP to reduce operating costs, strengthen resilience, and relieve pressure on national grids, often with no upfront capital and no disruption to operations.
The business is now scaling the rollout of commercial Distributed Energy Storage Systems (DESS) across the UK. As Technical Manager, you will be at the operational heart of this expansion, bridging the company’s head office and a network of specialist subcontractors to deliver high-volume, rapid-install projects. This is a ground-floor opportunity to architect and standardise the delivery playbook for a business with a clear, funded pipeline and ambitions for national reach. The role offers entrepreneurial autonomy, the chance to shape operational excellence, and a pathway to senior leadership as the company grows.
We are looking for a hands-on leader who can manage multiple outsourced installations simultaneously, ensure technical and operational rigour, and continuously improve delivery and O&M processes. This role will be instrumental in building the company’s reputation for quality, speed, and reliability in the UK market.
Responsibilities
Project Readiness & Planning: Own technical readiness from project award through mobilisation, delivery, commissioning, and handover. Lead G99 applications, acting as the primary liaison with DNOs, and ensure all compliance and connection requirements are met.
Subcontractor Management: Orchestrate the work of multiple specialist electrical subcontractors, holding them accountable for quality, safety, and schedule. Take handover of electrical works, review documentation, and ensure clean project governance.
On-Site Leadership: Spend significant time on the road (typically 3 days/week), conducting site surveys, witness testing, quality audits, and troubleshooting. Be the credible technical authority on-site, able to command respect and resolve issues in real time.
Commissioning & Handover: Lead or oversee commissioning, configure BESS systems, establish remote connectivity, and ensure complete documentation for handover to operations. Deliver customer training and ensure a smooth transition to O&M support.
Continuous Improvement: Help design and refine the delivery mechanism, develop playbooks and templates, and build a robust O&M capability. Drive measurable improvements in cycle time, quality, and partner performance.
O&M Management: Build and manage the O&M function, including preventative maintenance, incident response, partner management, and performance reporting
Required Experience
Electrotechnical pedigree: Commercial/industrial electrician background, ideally with project management experience and a track record of moving from “on the tools” to technical leadership.
G99 & DNO expertise: Demonstrable experience owning G99 applications and managing DNO approvals and commissioning.
Multi-site delivery: Proven ability to plan and manage subcontracted electrical installations at scale, with a focus on rapid, repeatable rollouts.
Commissioning discipline: Strong understanding of test planning, witness testing, documentation control, and snag-list closure.
Technical credibility: Able to interpret electrical documentation and translate requirements into actionable site instructions.
Stakeholder management: Skilled at motivating subcontractors, negotiating with site contacts, and communicating with commercial customers.
Personality: Independent, resilient, highly communicative, and comfortable out on the road. Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias for action and continuous improvement
Success in this Role Means
Excellent working relationships with third party installers and client site managers.
G99 applications are submitted and progressed efficiently, with predictable DNO outcomes.
Installations meet quality and safety standards, with minimal rework and clean handovers.
Commissioning is right-first-time, with complete evidence packs and operational readiness.
Customers receive a seamless handover and reliable O&M support.
The delivery mechanism becomes more standardised and scalable over time
