Role Overview
As a Payroll Data Engineer at Fronted, you will be instrumental in building the foundation for our global payroll engine. This role is at the nexus of payroll operations, regulatory expertise, data modeling, and AI-assisted knowledge work, working closely with product and engineering teams. Your primary mission is to design, validate, and operationalize country-specific payroll computation rules, ensuring that every payroll run is accurate, scalable, and compliant with ever-evolving global regulations. You will blend analytical rigor with a systems-thinking approach, tackling complex interdependencies to deliver robust, explainable, and maintainable payroll solutions for every country we support.

Drive Accuracy & Scalability

What You'll Do
Your core responsibilities will include:
Regulatory Research & Validation
Research and interpret complex country-specific payroll regulations, tax rules, and legal requirements, leveraging AI-assisted workflows and primary sources. Gather and analyze real-world payroll data to validate rules and resolve discrepancies with local experts.
AI-Assisted Rule Development
Utilize AI tools to accelerate regulatory research, data extraction, and rule generation. You'll generate structured rule definitions, detecting and verifying AI outputs to ensure accuracy and independent reasoning.
Payroll Engine & Data Modeling
Collaborate closely with product managers and developers to refine the payroll engine architecture, computation logic, and rule execution frameworks, designing scalable data schemas and country configuration models.
Operational Systems & Governance
Design and implement scalable processes for maintaining payroll rules across multiple countries, tracking legal changes, establishing QA, documentation, and audit trails for efficient expansion.
